Power shutoff necessary
the installation process
Power isolation
During your switch installation, the power to the circuit is switched off at the consumer unit to ensure safety during the installation. This step involves verifying that no electricity is flowing to the circuit by using a voltage tester.
Old switch removal
The existing switch cover plate is unscrewed, and the switch is carefully pulled away from the wall to expose the wiring. The wires are then disconnected from the terminals on the old switch.
Connection
The wires are connected to the corresponding terminals on the new switch, typically labeled as live (L) and neutral (N). If there is an earth wire, it is connected to the earth terminal.
Testing and commissioning
The new switch is screwed back into the wall, and the cover plate is secured. Power is then restored at the consumer unit, and the switch is tested to ensure proper operation.
Recessed installation
Recessed switches are installed flush with the wall, creating a clean and seamless look that minimizes protrusion. This type of installation is ideal for modern interiors where aesthetics and space-saving are key priorities. We carefully cut into the wall to fit the switch box securely, ensuring the wiring is neatly hidden and the switch sits perfectly level with the surface, providing a sleek, unobtrusive finish.
Wall mounted installation
Mounted switches are installed directly onto the surface of the wall, making them a practical choice for areas where easy access and visibility are important, such as in workshops or older homes. This installation process is quicker and less invasive than recessed switches, and it’s particularly useful when dealing with solid walls or when running external trunking is necessary to accommodate wiring.
